AVALON WAY 4 TRACK E.P.

Avalon Way

Avalon Way's first release under their new moniker sees them never too far away from stomping on their fuzz pedals. They're giving the people what they want and make no mistake!

The opening riff to 'Had Enough' sees the song chugging along like a steam train, then it derails at the chorus and crushes you through its sheer force. It's a ferocious opening, and they try and keep that momentum flowing throughout.

You'd be forgiven for thinking second track, 'Hit The Kerb', is a straight forward Chilli's workout. But with its funk led verses juxtaposed next to its explosive chorus, you never feel the group are treading someone else's path for too long.

The music may be here to get you on your feet, but the songs lyrical content is far from carefree. 'Moment of Inertia' is a song driven by its lyric's desperation. "Nobody wants to be crawling forever", sings Rik Holden as Matt Dearden's drums crash like bombs all around him. It's the record's highlight.

By the time 'Beautiful Strange' starts up, however, you can see the formula that Avalon Way are sticking to and perhaps they wear it a little thin by the end of this first release. This standard heavy rock song is bit more forgettable than the rest on offer here but will certainly have its appeal with classic rock fans.

These lads certainly play the sort of music that demand you sit up and take notice, they just need to find the balance to keep you interested at all times. With the influence of equal parts classic and current heavy rock, the boys emerge for the most part with a brand of music that's a little left of the middle and all the more interesting for it.
