In 2005, around a thousand people were hugely disappointed when they arrived at the festival expecting to be able to buy tickets on the gate, as they event had sold out several weeks before. Tickets for Solfest 2006 are certain to be even more in demand, especially since this year the huge Glastonbury Festival in Somerset is having a year off and many people are looking for alternative festivals to attend.
This will be the third year that Solfest has taken place, and the festival has grown from 1800 tickets sold in 2004 to 5000 sold in 2005. In an attempt to maintain the unique friendly atmosphere of the event, and despite the increased demand, the organizers have decided to keep the numbers the same for 2006.
Solfest has already proven itself as a great festival. It is now the biggest live music event in Cumbria and has been listed in the prestigious Guardian Guide as one of the top five things to do in Britain on the Bank Holiday weekend!
Solfest is particularly keen to ensure that local people do not miss out by leaving it too late to buy their tickets. It would be a shame if people missed out on an event right on their doorstep just because they didn't realize just how popular it is. Tickets will go on sale at The Carnegie Theatre Box Office, Workington (01900 602122) At 9.00am on Monday 3rd April. Full details, are available on the Solfest website at www.solwayfestival.co.uk

North West based singer-songwriter Glyn Bailey makes his first appearance at Manchester's Dry Bar on March 7th. Bailey, (described as "a kindred spirit of our best mavericks" by former Sounds journalist Tim Peacock) played in bands including The Urbane Gorillas and Harvey's Wall of Sound in the 90s, releasing a series of independent records on their 'Inane Records' label.
In 2004 some production work with The Container Drivers featured on BBC Radio 1's John Peel show.
The Dry Bar date kicks off a tour supporting the release of Bailey's debut album TOYS FROM BALSA, which features an eclectic mix of subjects including a communist feast, plastic bags, cannibalism, abusive relationships, Laurel & Hardy and a bonus track about John & Yoko in bed. The self-released album has been receiving excellent reviews from the independent media, on-line reviewers and broadcasters. It became a featured album of the week on radio Pulse Rated on Sky. Bailey's retro sound has drawn comparisons with Bowie, Julian Cope and Ian McNabb.
The tour crosses the Pennines to Leeds on March 24th with a date at the Cardigan Arms.
